Through a multi-week training session (held both in-person and online), participants will learn how to apply archival principles and practices in their own settings.

Past Programs

In 2025, our advisory committee the SMWC advisory committee members and friends conducted research and built relationships across the South. Among of other work, they did a multi-day bus trip to visit memory worker sites in 4 states.

The work of 2025, including survey results and focus groups, represents a period of exploration. We wanted to know what our community is doing, and what resources they need to succeed.


In 2024, we hosted a gathering of memory workers and movement-oriented journalists to explore areas of overlap in our respective work.


In 2024, we hosted our second cohort of memory workers from around the South.


In 2023, we hosted a gathering of memory workers from around the South. As the first-of-its-kind, this gathering set the stage for all future events.
