Purpose of list
The Southern Memory Worker email list is a means to create and support an inclusive, diverse, and equitable community of practice around memory work in the US South.
Please use this list to ask questions about memory work, share relevant news and project updates, and build connections with like-minded practitioners.
Code of conduct
Harassment of any type will not be tolerated, including:
Comments that reinforce oppressive power dynamics related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin, or economic status
Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment
Failure to use a person’s chosen name and pronouns
Threats of violence
Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm
Deliberate intimidation
Sustained disruption of discussion
Unwelcome sexual attention
Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease
Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent
In addition to avoiding harassment, we encourage the following behavior:
Respecting the effort that others put into their work
Accepting critique graciously and offering it constructively
Giving credit where it is due
Assuming the best intentions from other parties
If list moderators determine that harassment has taken place, they may:
Issue a warning;
Remove people from the list; and/or
Block people from all future SMW projects
